WELCOME to the music program at The ARTS at Good Samaritan. You are about to enter a new vision of music education where instruction is a personalized service in which we value the opportunity to assist each student in obtaining his or her personalized musical goals. We know that God has given each of us many gifts. It is our goal to provide opportunities for you with our professional faculty to explore and develop those gifts.
We believe making music is an exciting part of life's journey. Good Samaritan's Arts programs are committed to providing you a venue for building life-long relationships with music.
In the area of music The ARTS program will be providing an opportunity for future students of all ages - birth through adulthood. It's NEVER TOO YOUNG and It's NEVER TOO LATE! Our goal is to provide opportunities regardless of age or skill level for students to develop their musical talents.
Music instruction will be available in piano, guitar, voice, violin, woodwinds, brass, and percussion (drums). Private lessons are offered in all music areas. Four and five year olds have 30 minute lessons. All other students have 40 minute lessons.
After reviewing our complete program and policies you may register online, downloading the forms to mail to us, or simply dropping by The Arts. Since our hours vary please call to schedule an appointment.

Programs for Students from Birth through 6 Years Old
Programs for Students from 4 Years Old through Adult
PIANO
Students may begin and continue in our piano program as early as age four through adulthood. All levels are taught in traditional methods in private lessons.
Private instruction is offered for students of all ages.
- Depending upon the commitment, ability, and level students are encouraged to extend their weekly lesson time to 60 minutes per week.
VIOLIN
The Suzuki and Traditional methods are taught to the very young. Parents are encouraged to attend lessons of students younger than third grade. It has been demonstrated that students progress at a faster rate when they have a practice partner at home. Upon request after a student has master primer and level one skills he or she may be introduced to fiddle. Instruction in the areas of cello and viola begin at the age of eight.

Programs for Students from 6 Years Old through Adult
In addition to piano and violin that begins at the age of four, now students are at an age appropriate level to begin Guitar Instruction.
GUITAR
The guitar program is offered to all levels. The recommended age to begin guitar instruction is six. Any students younger than six will have an interview with instructor before acceptance into the guitar program. The guitar program encompasses all styles of music from classical, sacred, jazz, blues, country, and rock. Instruction is offered on either acoustic or electric guitars privately or in groups. Bass guitar students generally begin at the age of ten. During the year folk, classical, and rock ensembles are often formed.

Programs for Students from 9 Years Old through Adult
In addition to piano, violin and guitar instruction that is available prior to the age of nine now students are age appropriate for voice, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
VOICE
The students are taught both proper singing technique and a variety of song styles. Students learn correct breathing technique, diction, vowel production, tone quality and how to expressively perform a song. It is important for the student to have a well-rounded repertoire of songs. Students will learn sacred, fold, Broadway, pop, opera, and art songs. The recommended age for the youngest private vocal lesson is nine. Any person desiring to receive voice lessons before the age of nine will be interviewed by the voice instructor. The decision of acceptance into the voice program is made by the voice instructor.
BRASS (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba) WOODWINDS (Clarinet, Saxophone, and Flute), and PERCUSSION (Snare Drums and Drum Set)
The instrumental program is a vital integrated component at The Arts at Good Samaritan. All instructional materials used are standard literature publications including all styles of music. We work closely with the area Band Directors to assist in preparing students for band requirements. Solos are selected from the Florida Bandmasters Association required listings. Our goal is to establish woodwind, brass, and percussion ensembles as well as to form a Christian contemporary band and a rock band.

How to Register
You may complete the online Registration Form and pay the registration and materials fee by using your credit or debit card. Or you may download the Registration Form and Music Tuition page. You may complete the Registration form and Music Tuition pages on line by using your credit or debit card. Or you may download the Registration form and Music Tuition pages complete and mail to The Arts at Good Samaritan. Complete these forms for each student. A completed and signed registration form accompanied by the registration fee and August tuition must be received by The Arts office before the student may participate in lessons. Registration forms are completed once per year for August - July semesters.
Annual Registration Fee
An annual non-refundable $40 registration fee per area of instruction is due at registration. The year is August - July. These fees are used to purchase supplies for your students as well as for recital costs, mailings, and purchasing the necessary equipment for the music program.
Materials Fee
A materials fee is billed per semester for each instrument.
Payment of Fees
All class fees - registration, materials, and tuition - are due 24 hours prior to the first lesson. Payment of the registration fee is due in order to reserve your spot. You will have the following payment options: (A) Semester payment in full with either check, credit card, debit card, or authorized bank payment (B) Monthly payments with either check, credit card, debit card, or authorized bank payment. Please review Tuition pages for details or contact The Arts to discuss your options. If payments are not received by the 10th of the month a $20 late fee will be charged to your account. $20 will be automatically billed to your account for returned checks.
Lesson Confirmation
Upon receipt of your registration form with payment you will be receive a confirmation call to schedule your lesson time.
Refund Policy
Refunds are given only if you have move more than 50 miles from Tallahassee. Once enrolled you are responsible for payment for that complete semester.

Attendance & Safety Policy
Students under the age of 10 must be escorted to and from classes by an adult. Failure to comply with this policy will result in dismissal from the program. It is necessary for students to arrive on time and be picked up immediately following their class.
Make-up Lessons
- If instructor is notified 24 hours in advance that a student is unable to attend his lesson then the instructor will provide one make-up per semester. Each instructor schedules the make-ups for his/her students. The lessons are often taught in Master Class format.
- If you know that you will be out of town on your lesson day please discuss with your instructor other times.
- Make-up lessons are NOT carried over to another semester. Please understand that your instructor is at The Arts at Good Samaritan prepared to teach and is paid for that time, regardless of whether or not the student attends.
Instructor's Absence
If an instructor is absent, a substitute will be arranged. If this is not possible, then it is the instructor's responsibility to make-up the lesson within thirty days at a convenient time for both parties involved, and it is given as a normal lesson.
Behavior Policy
We desire to maintain a quiet, learning environment; therefore, students, siblings, and parents are asked to remain quite while waiting. There is to be no running in the hallways and to keep noise to a minimum at all times as a courtesy to other students, faculty, and church staff.
Recitals and Performance Opportunities
The Arts at Good Samaritan will offer recital and performance opportunities each semester. Students will be encouraged to share their talents in recitals, outreach performances to the community, and in worship services. A calendar will be provided at the beginning of Fall Semester that will provide the major recital dates for the academic year. Recitals are not require but are highly encouraged and open to all students with parent and instructor approval.
Accompanist
If an accompanist is needed, it is the student and parent's responsibility with their instructor's recommendations to locate and to pay the accompanist for one rehearsal and one performance. The accompanist fee will vary between $20 and $80 based upon the difficulty and length of the solo.
Performance Attire
The Arts at Good Samaritan has set a standard for our performance events. Students should be in "dressy" attire. Formal dress is not required. Jeans, shorts, athletic wear, sneakers and flip-flops are prohibited. Dress/skirt should be long enough to be appropriate for on-stage appearance.
NO Music at Lesson
If a student forgets his music for his lesson three times, an additional set is purchased and the parent will pay for the second set of books that will be kept at The Arts at Good Samaritan.
Vacation Periods
During the school year The Arts at Good Samaritan strives to follow the public school schedule. However, lessons are taught on Teacher Planning Days. The Arts will be closed for Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, New Year's Day, Spring Break, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July.
Weather Related Closings
For hurricanes and other acts of nature or national emergencies in which we have no control, The Arts at Good Samaritan will abide by the national, state, or local authorities decisions on office and school closings! These missed lessons are not make-up.
Emergency Lock-Downs
If The Arts at Good Samaritan is notified by the local law enforcement of the necessity of a lock-down in our area, we will follow that advisory and you may be assured of your student(s) safety.
Withdrawal
Students may withdraw from instruction only at the end of a semester. Non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal. The tuition fee is still paid. Only in the case of pre-arranged extended absence or a family emergency will tuition be waived. If a REAL problem develops make an appointment with Mrs. Brown to discuss your options.
